EPIC-ARES 2023

Interdisciplinary Workshop on Applied Research in Embedded, Purpose-specific, Integrated Computing and their Availability, Reliability and Security

to be held in conjunction with the 18th International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security

(ARES 2023 – http://www.ares-conference.eu )

August 29 – September 01, 2023, Benevento, Italy

The increase in computational and memory capacities furthers the application of embedded and purpose-specific devices for computing and communication tasks. In fog and mist computing, devices at the edges of networks are used for computationally intensive tasks. The IoT and IIoT introduce purpose-specific devices that require ubiquitous communication. In terms of security, such devices suffer from disadvantages, e.g., by not providing full user interfaces or the capabilities for well-established Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). The EPIC-ARES workshop aims at establishing a platform for researchers from academia, industry, and governmental agencies to exchange and discuss advances in applied research regarding the area of Availability, Reliability and Security for embedded, purpose-specific, or integrated computation. A strong focus is put on knowledge transfer and applied research. Availability, Reliability and Security for the operation of individual devices as well as their influence on the network and other systems are discussed. An emphasis is put on data protection and mitigation of adversarial AI. Security measures to integrate devices safely and reliably into networks and employ their capabilities are discussed, including novel AI-based approaches.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to

Applied embedded security and resiliency
Purpose-specific computing and networking
Integrated hardware and software security
AI-assisted threat detection and mitigation in purpose-specific devices
Resiliency of AI subsystems in integrated software
Deception and Moving Target Defense for embedded and integrated systems
